Necktie

Necktie is a lengthy piece of fine quality cloth that is worn along the collar of the shirt.

It is also called as tie and it is one of the important accessories of the attire. The males mostly wore ties and in some cases the women also wear it. The other accessories of necktie are bow tie, ascot and the clip that holds the tie firmly.

In 16 th century a cravat was very popular as the necktie was not in existence. This cravat was long cloth and was made by the local tailors. Later on the ruff was introduced that had number of pleats and was made of white linen.

Earlier the neckties were rectangular in shape and the ends were cut to square. It is well known from the history that the carriage drivers used long piece of cloth and later on it was termed as ties. Later on the members of the gentlemen’s club followed the scarves fashion. Further in 19 th century it became a trend to wear necktie for important ceremonies.

There are different ways to tie the knots of the necktie. But most common knots are of four types and they are Pratt knot or the Shelby knot, half Windsor knot and the Windsor knot. The Windsor knot was honored in the name of Duke of Windsor and it is the most difficult knot as it involves various different steps.

The fourth knot is simple in nature called as hand knot and it preferred by most of the people. Around mid nineties the Americans and English people used the ties that had stripes diagonally instead of plain ties and from there the actual fashion of necktie have started. In some of the cases elastic is attached to one end of tie to make it easy to wear the tie and the school going kids commonly adopts it. It is also proved by the researchers of the Cambridge University that tie can be tied in different 85 ways. Out of these six knots along with major four knots were recommended by the University for day-to-day using of the tie.

Black color necktie and the white color tie are commonly worn along with the formal wears. There are certain dress codes for wearing the necktie. One of them is that whenever neckties are worn wearing of shoes is mandatory. In some of the countries coat is also must when tie is worn. Full sleeve plain shirt is also must while wearing the necktie. But in certain cases the people neglect all these rules.

Now a day’s necktie plays important role in business and it is the most unique part of the formal clothing. Especially in western countries men and women most commonly use neckties.

ven though the neckties help in providing confidence and easy expression towards the fellow client but at the some time it has few disadvantages also as there is a risk of suffocation in individual due to the entanglement. But this is not true in most of the cases. The other disadvantage is of neck infection because frequent use of necktie increases the chance of infection and may result in severe problem in later stages. The third and the most important disadvantage is vascular constriction due to which the bones of the neck becomes stiff and causes disorders.
